Koolwire PDF Review

Koolwire Online PDF Converter

There are several things I like about this converter, but also some serious drawbacks to using it.

PDF Creation Time.
The document I sent to test for this review took around 5 minutes. I have had varying results with this, the longest taking around 36 hrs to be returned. So while it is generally quite quick, don't rely on it.

File size returned
The original document I sent was 623kb. The PDF I received back was 580kb. That is smaller than the original word document, so that is a great result.

You can send documents of up to 10mb by email. Larger documents can be uploaded. However, if you have a slower internet connection, 10mb may be too large for sending by email. And some ISPs won't allow a file size that large to be sent, so using Koolwire's upload feature might be a better option.

Formatting retained
This is the big let down, as far as I'm concerned. The TOC and all hyperlinks are converted to plain text. Unless there is some way around this, it makes the software totally unsuitable for creating an ebook that uses a Table Of Contents, or links to external resources. IF you have no need of hyperlinks in your PDF, it does a good job. The layout is retained and the file size is excellent. But the lack of clickable links really limits the use.

I would use this for compiling small reports, a collection of images, or anything NOT requiring clickable links. But for me, it doesn't come close to primo.
