Get the latest version of Microsoft Word^® to try. You can purchase the Office suite at any good computer or software retailer. But why not try it first, to be sure it fits your needs? The student edition is priced at $150 (US dollars)

Word Tips has to be one of the best resources, if you are looking for short tips and tutorials on how to use this program. Packed with just about every tip imaginable, it is a resource that I have used many times over the years. Highly recommended.

Open Office

The best open source version of Microsoft Office. And open source does of course mean free! This can do pretty much anything that the Microsoft version can do. A largish download (around 150 MB), but certainly worth having.

This website has tips and tricks for Open Office. Much of the material is perhaps too advanced for the complete beginner, but those with a bit more experience should find plenty of useful information.

PDF Software

Adobe Acrobat Professional^®

Regarded as the industry standard, when it comes to PDF software. But that recognition comes with a very hefty price tag. Unless you already have this installed, you can probably find software that will perform as well, for a fraction of the price. However, if you want the best and price is not a consideration, then you may want to check it out.
